Synopsis
Gordon Goody was one of the central figures in the Great Train Robbery, and for fifty years he said almost nothing about it. Raised in rural Northern Ireland, he served as an army sergeant and in the merchant navy before turning to crime. He then became one of London’s most prolific robbers, running with Bruce Reynolds, Charlie Wilson and Buster Edwards.
In his own words, Goody tells how the gang came together, how the 1963 robbery was planned and carried out, and what followed.
Narration Notes
This one found Karl by luck. Gordon Goody spent his later years in Mojácar, in Almería, where he ran a bar. Karl, who has an apartment there, heard about him from his Spanish teacher in the town, looked him up, and discovered How to Rob a Train was published by Milo Books, the same publisher behind The Betrayer. Goody's voice is a big part of the book: tough and dry, with no interest in legend-making, so Karl plays him as a man setting the record straight rather than boasting.
